James Otis:

James Otis was born in Barnstable, MA on Feb. 5, 1725. As a lawyer in colonial Massachusetts, Otis was an outspoken, independent thinker whose radical views and fiery orations served as political cannonballs aimed toward the oppressive British rule. Most notably was in 1761, when he represented Boston area merchants and citizens in their contention of the British ordered "Writs of Assistance." In one of his many famous speeches, Otis argued for over five hours that the general searches of colonists' property by British officials were in direct opposition to their "natural rights." He did not persuade the court. However, he did gain the support of public and was quickly revered by many as a passionate and articulate voice for the American cause.
