It's hard to believe that what is now a part of a bustling city full of people is also the site of a battle that left 5 people dead. Crispus Attucks, Samuel Gray, James Caldwell, Samuel Maverick, and Patrick Carr are names you may remember from history as the people who perished during The Boston Massacre. The provocation began outside of the Old State House when a group of colonists began to antagonize a British soldier who was guarding the Custom House. The aggression eventually progressed into a riot, with mixed communication and reports of pleads for peace as well as raucous escalations of the situation from both sides. At one point, the infamous "Fire!" was heard, and so began the gunshots. It's still unclear if the first shot was intentionally discharged. It is now wholly believed that the events that took place on March 5, 1770, was the result of colonists inciting chaos and soldiers not handling the situation professionally, which cost the lives of civilians. As we know, tensions continued to grow and colonists continued to push anti-British narratives until we achieved independence as a country.
