Stop 8: Old State House

Updated: Oct 17, 2022

Recognize this notable building? It's the oldest public building in Boston, being built it 1713. This is the Old State House! Many historical figures from the past have spoken from the balcony including our very own guide, James Otis!

Look for a circle on the ground outside the Old State House. It's to mark the place where the Boston Massacre took place in 1770. What started off as taunting between young local boys and a British sentry became a chaotic spar that resulted in the death of 5 colonists.

Bostonians listened to the Declaration of Independence for the first time from its balcony, and within the state house, the voices of the revolution governed colonial Boston.
