Freedom Trail Stop 2: Park Street Church

Updated: Aug 15, 2022

We've made it to Stop 2, Park Street Church! The building along with its 217 foot tall steeple was built back in 1809 and is still an active parish to this day. Previously, it was a building where grain was stored- Hence the name for the Granary Burial Ground, our next stop. Originally, locals came to call the Park Street Church Brimstone Corner and it was said to have held gunpowder during the War of 1812. This church is notorious for promoting human rights throughout history such as anti-slavery efforts, supporting the poor, and prison reform. During the summertime you can immerse yourself even more by touring the inside!
